How safe is Pomona really?

I've been looking at the stats and Pomona shows a violent crime rate of 615 per 100K which is above average. But stats don't always tell the full story. For people who actually live there — do you feel safe? Are there areas to avoid?

I'm especially interested in hearing from women living alone.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.
