Why I chose Pontiac over bigger cities

Longtime lurker here, Military spouse here. The unemployment rate is 6.6%, which is concerning. Rent is about $1,007/month for a decent place. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Any help is appreciated. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.
