Things that make Port Aransas unique

Alright, I'm a college student here and Rent is about $2,226/month for a decent place. With a population of 3,141, Port Aransas is a small town. The median home value here is around $490,200, which is pretty steep. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Low crime in most areas
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Hot summers
- Cold winters
- Sprawl everywhere
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
Am I wrong here? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from New York about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.
