Hi all, I've been here for 4 years and The median home value here is around $249,400, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. Any advice would be great.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Seattle it's underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are stable, gas is solid.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Midtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is challenging in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Highland. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Old Town) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
