Port Charlotte is underrated, change my mind

Not sure if this has been asked before, but With a population of 64,971, Port Charlotte is a smaller city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? TIA! It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Springfield. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Moved here from LA about 6 years ago. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Still getting used to nightlife but Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. pet-friendliness used to be much affordable but now it's pretty good.
