What I wish I knew before living in Port Charlotte

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and Rent is about $1,335/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Any advice would be great. Cheers. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I've lived in South for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
- The food scene scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.
