What surprised you most about Port Charlotte?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but It's a a smaller city city with about 64,971 people. Poverty rate is 7.7%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,335/month for a decent place. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Appreciate any input. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Raleigh about 7 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I have mixed feelings honestly. Worth doing your research before committing.
