Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in energy and Average temperature is around 61--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $76,655, which feels about average for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great farm-to-table places. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a project manager, 24, moved here 1 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Old Town and Sunset, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Nightlife is limited
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The food scene situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Sunset: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$150K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
