Affordable areas near Port Lavaca?

I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,024/month for a decent place. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Does this match your experience? TIA!

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.
