Hey everyone, Median household income is $84,335, which feels pretty solid for the area. Crime rate is something to consider -Port Neches sits at 288.9 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thoughts? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Houston about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.
