Homes are going for about $287,900 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,448 for rent here. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Riverside. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in consulting you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if school system matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to New York it's excellent.

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Dallas about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely challenging and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Sunset) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.
