Should I move to Port St. John or stay in Pittsburgh?
First post here. We're a young couple and It's a a small town city with about 24,617 people. The median home value here is around $262,700, which seems about average. Household incomes average around $84,214 in Port St. John. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Port St. John? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Downtown. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The weather is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Minneapolis it's surprisingly good.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Riverside for 12 years. Moved from Raleigh for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Bugs and humidity in summer. Far from beaches/mountains. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
