First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 220K, Port St. Lucie is a mid-size city. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I wrong here? TIA! The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Lakewood. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much manageable but now it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 14 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value job market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've lived in Sunset for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- The dating scene scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..
