Hey folks, Average temperature is around 76°F, so it's warm year-round. Household incomes average around $78,137 in Port St. Lucie. Crime rate is something to consider — Port St. Lucie sits at 146.9 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 3.3%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Let me know your thoughts. TIA! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in tech. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Korean.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Chicago about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good internet infrastructure
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and I have mixed feelings honestly. Schools in Oak Park area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 12 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in West for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- The safety scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..
