Starting a business in Port St. Lucie?

Hey folks, I'm single, late 40s, and With a population of 220K, Port St. Lucie is a mid-size city. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Port St. Lucie? The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 9 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in construction. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Definitely worth checking out..
