Couple moving to Port Washington from out of state

Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and You can expect to pay around $2,218 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Any help is appreciated. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2020 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Downtown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely challenging and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (South) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
