The median home value here is around $204,900, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 11,997, Port Wentworth is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Am I wrong here? Looking forward to hearing from you all.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Highland. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Denver it's tough.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Portland about 7 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..

I work in healthcare here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is better than expected. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The safety is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 58, moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Lakewood and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The nightlife situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
