Dog-friendly places in Portage Lakes?

Alright, The unemployment rate is 4.4%, which is about average. It's a a small town city with about 6,199 people. The median home value here is around $165,500, which is actually reasonable. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'm a nurse and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. The community is solid and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 39, moved here 11 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Fairview and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Diverse dining options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The job market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Seattle about 15 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 4 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..
