Affordable areas near Portales?

So, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $870/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $870 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Portales sits at 471.1 per 100K. With a population of 12,023, Portales is a small town. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services.
