I've been here for 4 years and The median home value here is around $273,600, which seems about average. Median household income is $59,012, which feels about average for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Worth the trade-offs? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Good internet infrastructure
- The school system scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Happy to answer more specific questions..
