Rent in Porterville getting crazy

Hey everyone, The median home value here is around $273,600, which seems about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Porterville sits at 318.9 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Any advice would be great. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the South side, now on the The Heights side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I work in hospitality here and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The job market for my field is tough. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 15 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.
