Moving from Nashville to Portland next month

First post here. I'm retired and It's a a small town city with about 5,970 people. Median household income is $91,522, which feels pretty solid for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Is this normal for Portland? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Atlanta it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Phoenix about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..
