Best companies to work for in Portland?

Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Anyone in a similar situation?

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

The food scene here is excellent. Tons of great Southern places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The community vibe is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 13 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a physical therapist, 56, moved here 3 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in The Heights and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a contractor and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I have mixed feelings honestly. Compared to Denver it's hit or miss.

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Westside area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
