Just retired here from LA. The legal scene here is really picking up.
Home prices averaging is {home_feel}. I saw that rent in Irvington is now /mo which is expected.
What I like:
- Affordable compared to coastal cities
- Four seasons
- Easy to meet people
What I don't:
- Parking is a nightmare
- Water quality concerns
I keep discovering new spots even after 9 years. I don't understand why more people don't talk about Irvington.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Portland.
Background: 43, empty nester, moved from LA 9 years ago for work. Currently in Cully.
**Housing:**
The market is hit or miss right now. We went with Cully because it felt safe. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Sunnyside - it's established and the value is better.
**Work:**
retail jobs are stable here. I was worried coming from LA but the market is better than expected. Salary-wise, expect competitive for the cost of living.
**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 8 months were tough. Then I found my people through a church group. Now I have a solid group. Portland people are friendly once you break through.
**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: reasonable
- Traffic: not as bad as people say
- Dining out: amazing variety
- Entertainment: plenty to do on weekends
**Would I move here again?**
The parks system here is underrated.. For young professionals, I'd give it a 6/10.

As someone who lives in Hawthorne, The parks system here is underrated.. That said, it depends on your budget.
