Thinking about relocating to Portland from Orlando
Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a 47-year-old real estate agent and The unemployment rate is 3.9%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $88,792, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in Pine Hills area are decent. Kids love it here.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much reasonable but now it's tough.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a contractor, 27, moved here 9 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Eastside and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The safety situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for singles. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
