Is it worth buying in Portland?

Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 4 years and You can expect to pay around $1,100 for rent here. Household incomes average around $72,380 in Portland. The unemployment rate is 2.1%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options
- Active local events

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Boring for young people
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What are your go-to spots? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's been a really good experience overall. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
