Housing market in Portsmouth right now

Hello, I'm single, late 40s, and The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. Median household income is $35,319, which feels on the lower side for the area. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Denver about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is solid.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Italian.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
