What surprised you most about Poteet?

Anyone else feel this way? I work in construction and Median household income is $57,434, which feels about average for the area. With a population of 2,876, Poteet is a small town. The median home value here is around $108,900, which is actually reasonable. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Should I be concerned? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I work in real estate here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is better than expected. No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 56, moved here 1 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Lakewood and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The public transit situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for young professionals. solid vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $80K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a sales manager and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 13 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into running, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much growing but now it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 1 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Chicago about 3 years ago. The main reasons were school and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 14 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
