Starting a business in Potsdam?

Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Potsdam sits at 191.1 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Does this match your experience? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is community vibe. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in engineering here and I genuinely enjoy living here. The job market for my field is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in North for 11 years. Moved from Miami for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. North schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Nightlife is limited. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely underrated and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Fairview) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from San Diego about 8 years ago. The main reasons were weather and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great Mexican places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
