Is Pottsville getting better or worse?

I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 4.5%, which is about average. Homes are going for about $97,700 on average. You can expect to pay around $820 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for reading. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely pretty good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (East) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 26, moved here 6 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Midtown and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Chain restaurants dominate
3. The outdoor recreation situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for families. tough vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Minneapolis about 6 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are reasonable, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

If you value safety, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely decent and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

My experience has been mostly positive. I have mixed feelings honestly. The only thing I'd watch out for is nightlife. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The traffic is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
