Poughkeepsie vs San Diego -which is better?

Hi all, I work in real estate and Poverty rate is 15.8%, which is higher than I expected. You can expect to pay around $1,370 for rent here. Homes are going for about $259,200 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. TIA! Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 26, moved here 10 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Fairview and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Four distinct seasons
2. Affordable housing options
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The housing market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. solid vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.
