Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Las Vegas and The median home value here is around $259,200, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 15.8%, which is higher than I expected. It's a a smaller city city with about 31,778 people. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I wrong here? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in North area are underrated. Kids love it here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a pharmacist, 47, moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in West and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The public transit situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for families. improving vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $100K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've lived in Fairview for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Close to major attractions
- The food scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Definitely worth checking out..

Public transit is excellent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is healthcare. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
