Average temperature is around 64--F, so the weather is moderate. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Anyone in a similar situation? My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, No regrets on my end..

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value food scene, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 54, moved here 10 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in West and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good healthcare facilities
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The safety situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $100K-$80K here.

Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The housing market is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
