Hey, I'm retired and Median household income is $143,825, which feels pretty solid for the area. Homes are going for about $971,500 on average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Does this match your experience? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Denver about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Growing food and restaurant scene
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The cultural scene is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is excellent in most areas.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
