Most overrated things about Powder Springs

Hello, We have two kids and Poverty rate is 8.9%, which is pretty low. It's a a small town city with about 17,414 people. With a population of 17,414, Powder Springs is a small town. You can expect to pay around $1,778 for rent here. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Should I be concerned? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much growing but now it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Atlanta about 8 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Urban sprawl is real

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is average.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a sales manager, 27, moved here 10 years ago from Miami. I've lived in East and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- East: Great for families. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great sushi places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely pretty good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
