OK so I'm a teacher here and Crime rate is something to consider -Powell sits at 874.4 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a data analyst who relocated here from Boston about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely underrated and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely solid and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Happy to answer more specific questions..
