Been meaning to ask this. It's a a small town city with about 12,054 people. Rent is about $1,742/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Has anyone dealt with this? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The suburbs are where most families end up.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Used to live on the Oak Park side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I'm a teacher and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to LA it's average.
