Is Prairie View walkable?

Just moved here 15 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Prairie View sits at 76.4 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $837 for rent here. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Anyone in a similar situation? Thanks for reading.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a contractor, 29, moved here 14 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in West and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Homeless population growing downtown
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The food scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for couples. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in tech here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. No regrets on my end..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The healthcare is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great sushi places. I have mixed feelings honestly.
