My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 1.2%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Prattville sits at 228.0 per 100K. Homes are going for about $208,500 on average. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Am I overthinking this? Thanks! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Seattle it's excellent.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 43, moved here 3 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Downtown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The school system situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Midtown side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 15 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
