Best apartments in Preakness under ?

Hey folks, Rent is about $1,946/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Has anyone dealt with this? Thanks in advance!

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Thai places. it exceeded my expectations.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Internet is tough in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were weather and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are established, gas is excellent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is food scene. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a HR manager, 36, moved here 8 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The cost of living situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for families. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
