I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The safety is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Lakewood for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- The public transit scene is average

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2024 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Denver about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is challenging.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. walkability used to be much growing but now it's challenging.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 3 years here, that's my honest assessment.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Affordable housing options
- The healthcare scene is average

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. No regrets on my end..
