Most overrated things about Preston

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and Median household income is $55,625, which feels about average for the area.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is solid in most areas.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Moved here from Houston about 9 years ago. I genuinely enjoy living here. Still getting used to cultural scene but Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely average and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Fairview) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (South) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
