Used to live on the North side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to New York it's surprisingly good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Chicago it's decent.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

We moved here with our family and the quality of life is solid. Schools in Pine Hills area are excellent. Kids love it here.

The food scene here is average. Tons of great Asian places. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (East) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The healthcare is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..
