Longtime lurker here, I'm originally from Denver and The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Moved here from Phoenix about 9 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to walkability but Good luck with whatever you decide..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The cultural scene is genuinely average and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Sunset) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Sunset for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- The school system scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for families. Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
