Hey everyone, It's a a small town city with about 11,187 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Prineville sits at 362.6 per 100K. Rent is about $1,245/month for a decent place. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. What would you do? The weather takes some getting used to. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. weather used to be much growing but now it's decent.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 12 years ago. The main reasons were school and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely average and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely better than expected and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.
