Best coffee shops in Progress Village?

Been meaning to ask this. My family moved here when I was a kid. Homes are going for about $266,200 on average. It's a a small town city with about 10,378 people. The median home value here is around $266,200, which seems about average. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What would you do? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely decent and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Baltimore about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is decent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 15 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The outdoor recreation is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Bought a house here in 2015 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 9 years. Moved from Portland for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Dating scene is rough. Homeless population growing downtown. And food scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
