Best and worst neighborhoods in Providence

Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,333/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 53°F, so expect cold winters. Homes are going for about $322,800 on average. Crime rate is something to consider — Providence sits at 496.2 per 100K. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Strong sense of community
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 5 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Meadowbrook side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much stable but now it's underrated.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Houston it's better than expected.
