The median home value here is around $322,800, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 4.8%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider — Providence sits at 496.2 per 100K. Poverty rate is 14.9%, which is around average. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I overthinking this? Any help is appreciated. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. the quality of life is solid. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are solid and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is school system. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in South for 2 years. Moved from Seattle for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
legal is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. South schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Dating scene is rough. And safety can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Houston it's challenging.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.
