Anyone else feel this way? I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 53°F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,333/month for a decent place. The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

I'm a data analyst and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is underrated and there's always something going on.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a accountant, 49, moved here 12 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Cedar Grove and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The healthcare situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Cedar Grove: Great for singles. tough vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
