Relocating to Providence, RI — pros and cons?

Longtime lurker here, Average temperature is around 53°F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,333/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Providence sits at 496.2 per 100K. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Thoughts? The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in education. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Italian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.
